DUSSHERA CELEBRATIONS AT THE NEST GROUP OF SCHOOLS

 

Thrilled at the thought of festival celebrations in school, our little Nestians arrived, dressed up as characters of The Ramayana. It was Dusshera celebration day at The Nest Group of Schools and there was great excitement and energy. Colourful outfits accessorised with faux bows and arrows and swords, the kids looked ready for a fun day. We gave them Sita, Ram and Hanuman masks to wear. Shorts kits were performed to narrate the story of The Ramayana and explain the significance of good and evil in our lives. The school had put up huge effigies of Ravana and parents were invited to be a part of our Ravana Dehan ceremony. The students were full of enthusiasm and joy, they were taught the importance of rituals and traditions in Indian culture. They understood that good always wins over evil. Keeping the spirit of the festival alive, our teachers were also dressed up in ethnic wear. Parents appreciated the unique way in which we incorporate celebrations with classroom teaching.

He tells me that whenever he did not feel like doing any particular activity, his parents told him he can quit. They always said they did not want him to get ‘stressed’ like they were when growing up.

* 34-year-old Raghav is a qualified Engineer and is married for 2 years but his wife is not ready to live with him hence the counseling. He is qualified alright but refuses to stick to any job as it makes him feel stressed! Every two months he runs back home from work and wants his parents to solve his problem like they did every time he refused to go to school.

* 28 years old Anjali does not want to go back to her one-year-old marriage because it is too much for her to work in the office and then look after the household. She wants her mother to come and live with her and do the household work.

There are many others… but all originating in overzealous parents wanting to protect their children from even the smallest discomfort in childhood.

You love them alright, but when you shell them from the adversities of life, what you are doing is bringing them up in a sterile environment.

The result: the moment they are exposed to the real world their immunity buckles up and they stand threadbare wanting to run away from everything that is anything but comfortable.

Tree Plantation Drive by Nest Group of Schools

The Nest Group of schools organized Sheetla Van Mahotsav, on 13th August at the Dispensary, Palam Vihar in Gurgaon. The Nest Preschool trains students to be environmentally conscious, and to take care of Mother Earth. Our gift to future generations- a greener Earth! And that is why our students planted 22 guava trees, along with their own name on each tree. The trees have been surrounded with fencing for protection. The students have taken the responsibility of taking care of the plants and watering them periodically.

Educationist Shri P. N. Mongia, President of Senior Citizens Federation, Gurgaon and Er. H.C. Khurana, President, Senior Citizens Forum, Palam Vihar, were our chief guests at the tree plantation and environmental awareness dry and lauded the efforts of our little children. Shri Parminder Kataria, (Mera Pyara Gurgaon), kindly presided over the event.  The trees were planted by our little ones, with their little hands. The Nest School encourages their students to be responsible citizens. Since it is never too early to learn good habits, we teach Nestians to give something back to the society. Trees remove carbon dioxide and other pollutants from the atmosphere, planting more trees would mean a greener, cleaner, healthier Gurgaon. Nestians are taught to respect the environment and take care of our planet.

About one hundred people gathered together to make this event a success. Our special thanks to all the parents and grandparents who came with their children to be a part of our initiative. Their appreciation and attendance gave The Nest Group of Schools and their staff, encouragement, to stride ahead with more perseverance and sincerity.
